Deep2 23hr May06
From NYU CCPP Wiki
This is a page about the PRIMUS project.
The DEEP2 observations for May 2006 are meant to provide simultaneously a complement to the DEEP2 spectroscopy, by targeting those galaxies that didn't pass the DEEP2 color cut, and calibration redshifts by targeting some of the DEEP2 redshifts. This data set, in combination with DEEP2 itself, should provide a good training set for SDSS photo-zs.
The May run has some slight changes to the January run (which was of the 02hr field):
- We've removed SKY, because as Daniel puts it, milling more slits is not costless
- The slits are 1 arcsec wide and the alignment boxes are 5 arcsec
- Where possible, we put alignment stars in the outer annulus of a bright star mask.
- We've been more careful about the secondary guide stars, guaranteeing V<14.5 for all.
We are using SDSS stars for the alignment. There are some significant residuals between the SDSS and DEEP2 here (at the 0.2 arcsec level) systematically depending mostly on RA. Since these appear in comparison with multiple SDSS runs, we trust the SDSS better than DEEP2. We fit these out as best we can, and apply the corrections to all DEEP2 sources.
The priorities are:
- SDSS_CALIB (103): SDSS F stars (~ 20)
- SDSS_AGN (203): Richards et al (2004) photometric QSOs with g < 21 (and i > 19) from their DR3 catalog) (~ 10)
- DEEP2_COMP_BRIGHT, DEEP2_COMP_FAINT (303): Sparse-sampled complementary DEEP2 galaxies (that is, z < 0.7). Bright set is R < 23, faint set is 30% of those with 23 < R < 23.5 (~ 1200)
- DEEP2_BRIGHT (403): DEEP2 spectroscopic galaxies with R < 23 (~ 150)
- DEEP2_FAINT (503): DEEP2 spectroscopic galaxies with R > 23 (~ 600)
- DEEP2_COMP_FILL (603): Remainder of DEEP2 complementary set (those not sparse sampled) (~ 50)
There are typically 2200 targets per mask total.
